Gippsland Business Centre Networking Evening

The story behind the door

One fifty five Queen Street used to be an old Harley Davidson factory.  That is, until a resourceful business woman spotted it one day deciding it would be an excellent place for a different kind of enterprise.

With an eclectic business background including banking, stone masonry, indoor cricket, wedding make up and bookkeeping, Pauline Luchetta founded Custodia in 1997.

Custodia was expanding rapidly and as a home based business owner, Pauline began looking for a place to look more professional that offered shared business spaces and a training room.

After investigating the top floor of the Bendigo Bank building encumbered by no lift for clients and a wall of Council ‘red tape’, Pauline settled on the Harley Davidson factory and a big renovation.

In 2007, the doors of Gippsland Business Centre opened with Gippsland Building Approvals and Best Match Recruitment moving in as early tenants.

Pauline’s own business Custodia continued to flourish in its new home and in Melbourne; running a virtual office from St Kilda Road with staff in the city.

Gippsland Business Centre’s ability to receive calls from Melbourne and transfer them to wherever people were located made Custodia’s city presence more successful.

“Who’d have known we were running out of new offices in Warragul – perception is everything!” says Pauline cheerfully.

Custodia – Latin for safeguarding or looking after – provides bookkeeping, business consulting, training and services to over 60 clients.  It is also an accredited partner with Reckon, Quickbooks, Xero and MYOB.

The training room is put to good use for running sessions on business start-ups, growing small business, and Government compliance education and software training.

With 10 years under the belt, Gippsland Business Centre has now been home to 54 different businesses, numerous Melbourne medical specialists, and provided refuge for organisations impacted by the Morwell fires in 2014.

It currently has tenants in seven serviced offices, six virtual offices and 14 regular visitors for the day office and boardroom.

As sponsor of Warragul Business Group’s May Network Evening, 50 members were able to tour and meet the all business owners based at Gippsland Business Centre.

Current tenants include The Podiatry Group, Apprenticeship Support Australia, SJD Law, Pinnacle Training, Carafella Contracting, The Cassidy Crew and Mick Gunn Computer Services.

Pauline says she still has the same passion as she did 25 years ago.

“To help people grow their business, be able to provide accurate, reliable and timely information, encourage others to take a leap, employ young staff to give them the start and training in work life.”
